Osvaldo Alberty Sr., affectionately known as “Mr. A,” was a two-time Olympic diving coach for Puerto Rico. He coached at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside his daughter, Vivian Alberty, who finished 27th in her event.
His son, Osvaldo “Pito” Alberty, had also qualified for the 1996 Olympic Games but was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) shortly afterward and was unable to compete. Had he been able to attend, the Alberty family would have represented Puerto Rico together at the Olympic Games.
Mr. A later coached at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, with Angelique Rodriguez, who finished 27th on springboard and 18th on platform.

A Life of Service, Coaching & Legacy
Mr. A served in the United States Army as an SP4 and was a Vietnam War veteran. After his military service, he dedicated several decades of his life to the sport of diving and became a two-time Olympic diving coach for Puerto Rico.
Throughout his coaching career, Mr. A made a lasting impact on the divers he coached and was considered by many to be a father figure. His dedication, guidance, and love for the sport helped shape generations of athletes both in and out of the pool.
His years of service to diving left a meaningful legacy within the diving community and among the many athletes whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife, three children, and grandson.
