Leading the Atlantic Diving Team is Olympic Coach Osvaldo Pito Alberty and he brings his knowledge to the pool deck and introducing the young kids to the sport of diving and develop the next generation of divers and champions. But there was a time not long ago when Coach Pito was a magician in midair.
He could spring from a one-meter and three-meter diving board as well as a 10-meter platform and do flips, somersaults and twists before making a silky entry into the water, legs straight and toes pointed. He was one of the best divers in his native Puerto Rico and qualified for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Unfortunately, a year before the Games, Coach Pito started experiencing flu-like symptoms, a high fever and muscle weakness. Within a week he was paralyzed from the neck down, a victim of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).
Since being struck down with GBS in 1995 coach pito work hard to become the ADT Director/Head Coach in 1999, cted from his coaches and all over the world to the new upcoming divers.
